Five-Minute Friday: Crowds

Ash at More than Cheese and Beer has introduced me to these 5-minute Fridays that are hosted by Lisa-Jo Baker.  Basically, you are to write for 5 straight minutes on the given topic.  Yes, that means I can't be a perfectionist and edit every little detail of this post.  There may be errors, but whatever.

This week's topic:  Crowds

Since I was a child, I have not be a fan of crowds.  Actually, crowds are okay, but I do not like being the focus of the crowd.  I don't like giving speeches.  In fact, they rather terrify me.

With that said, I am very impressed that I have decided to start a blog this year.  It took some great vulnerability to post my picture on here and say, "Hey, this is me.  This is what I wrote."  In fact, after my first post, I kind of wondered if I'd be able to keep blogging, knowing that people were really reading stuff that I was writing.  Maybe that sounds weird.  Maybe it is.  I love to write.  Having people read what I write is both nerve wrecking and exciting.

So thank you, readers, for actually taking your time to read my posts.  It really did take lots of courage to start this blog and let others read my writing.  There may only be a small handful of you reading this, but I am so thankful for that little handful of readers that take their time to read, comment, or share my posts to let me know that they enjoyed it.  You guys are my crowd, and I couldn't be happier to have found you.

  1. You'll be impressed to see how a small crowd of people (blog readers in this case) can turn into a much larger one with time and patience. Yes, it's a truth that it's not an overnight thing, however steady blog growth is a reality with content that's consistent both in its timing as well as in its quality.

    1. I'm totally blown away with the handful of readers I already have. It is pretty exciting to start getting some followers that actually read your stuff when you're just starting out. Not only to get followers, but to have people (like you) that actually read my posts and respond with amazing comments!

    2. Surprisingly, a rise in readership does not always correlate to a rise in comments. I wish it did, however that's sadly not the case. On my current blog, I brought over a small subset of posts that held about 50-60 comments from old commentors. I've only recently had new people commenting enough that those commentors are no longer in my top seven all time (well, one still is, however he wanders by from time to time). I'd love to tell you the secret to commentors who come back over and over again, however I'm still trying to learn that myself.

  2. I stopped over from FMF. It is courageous to expose yourself by blogging, Jackie. It does get easier though. Keep your "crowd" in mind as you offer them your encouragement. Blessings.

  4. I hate being in crowds, but I love performing. I think being a part of the melee is what I dislike. I might join you next FMF, this seems like a cool idea!

    1. Nice! I hope you do join. It's pretty fun to do link-ups here and there. Also, I think this sort of helped me get out of my blogger's block I have fallen into.

      And they're hosted by Lisa-Jo Baker. http://lisajobaker.com/
