I'm a sucker for stupid holidays.

Happy Croissant Day!

As soon as I was informed about this delicious fat-ass-y holiday, I immediately grabbed my shoes and headed out the door for one of these gluten, butter, and sugar-filled delights.  I've always loved croissants, and the fact that there is a holiday centered around them makes me want to click my heels, but I don't know how, so I'll just eat this croissant instead.

Croissant Day is wonderful and all, but the stupid holiday I really look forward to every year is Groundhog Day.  And it's ridiculous.  As a country, we have decided that a groundhog is able to predict the future.  I wonder what that groundhog is thinking.  Probably, "Humans are a bunch of idiots."  Do you think he gets tired of all the pressure?  When he predicts a longer Winter, do you think he dreads the bad press he receives as a result of it?

While I fully support celebrating some silly holidays, I have stumbled upon some downright weird ones.  Here is my favorite WTF holiday so far:  Monkey Buffet Festival in Thailand

Yes, this is real.  You can read about it here.

What are some of your favorite pointless, stupid, funny, or just plain weird holidays?

  1. When I was in France, I found out that a neighbouring town had a festival for pigs. So of course we went and checked it out. My favourite part was seeing a man walking around the streets with a bunch of balloon pigs trailing after him levitating just above the ground. There were actual real life pigs there too but they all just sort of sat in a pen and didn't do anything.

    1. Thanks for sharing that story, Anna. That's so funny. I can just picture a grown man with pig balloons trailing behind him. Also, I am jealous that you got to visit France.

  2. Haha I love pointless holidays. So far the only one I've heard of that's cruel but cracks me up is "Smack a Ginger" Day!
